Continuing our season of sun, last weekend we attended a country fete. It was brought to our attention by some great friends of ours, Callum and his lovely fiancee Sarah. Callum had brought his son, Logan, who is about 6 months older than Ned. I love Logan, he’s a beautiful kid, and it’s a great gauge of how Ned might be in the near future because he’s older.
Here we are, on the day itself, trying desperately not to look like either a civil partnership showing off their boys, and ignoring the fact it just looks like I’m pictured here with alternate earth Kyle.
The day itself was brilliant – Live music, a BBQ, a dog agility show (!), a bouncy castle (!!) and a train carousel (!!!) were some of the highlights, as were the unusual fete additions of a reptile petting tent (while walking past there, I stood next to a man who had a large snake in his trousers, and for once, there is no innuendo there) Ned and Logan are starting to notice each other, mainly because of our desperate attempts to make them become best friends, hopefully in the future we wont have to resort to pointing them at each other in the hope they’ll play.
The highlight for me was the ride on carousel train. The ride itself was a standard fairground layout, and Ned was too small to ride it alone – HOWEVER, ignoring potential health and safety issues an overweight father may bring to the riding of the child friendly train carriages, we were told that our children could go on, providing we accompanied them. I reluctantly stepped up, knowing that my son would get eternal joy from riding it. As you can see, I managed to force a smile.
